Water Filters and Safe Drinking Water

Ensuring Safe Water for Your Home

As part of the EquiFlow Lead-Free Program, all homeowners who have had their lead service lines replaced will receive a filtered water pitcher and a supply of NSF-certified replacement filters. The pitcher is specifically designed to remove residual lead particles, providing an extra layer of protection for your drinking water during the six-month period following your service line replacement. This precaution helps ensure that your water remains safe while the new pipe integrates fully into your home’s plumbing system.

How We Determine Filter Distribution

The number of filters provided to each household is based on average water consumption data from the CDC. According to CDC statistics, U.S. children and adolescents consume an average of 23 ounces of plain water daily, while adults typically drink around 44 ounces. We use these averages to determine an adequate supply of filters, ensuring each household receives enough to last through the initial six-month period following replacement.

Why Water Consumption Matters

Drinking enough water every day is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being. Adequate hydration helps support normal body functions, including temperature regulation, digestion, and cognitive performance. Dehydration can lead to symptoms like unclear thinking, mood changes, overheating, constipation, and even kidney stones.

Key Facts About Water Consumption:

  • Daily water intake needs can vary based on age, lifestyle, and environmental factors.
  • The CDC reports that water consumption differs among demographic and socioeconomic groups, highlighting the importance of understanding your household’s specific needs.
