Replacement Process

What to Expect: The EquiFlow Lead-Free Program’s Five Step Replacement Process

Participating in the EquiFlow Lead-Free Program is a simple, five-step process designed to ensure that every Wausau home benefits from a safe and lead-free water supply. From inspecting your service line to restoration and final testing, our team of specialists will work closely with you to replace any lead or galvanized service line with a safe, lead-free alternative.  Here’s an overview of what you can expect once you sign up for the replacement process.

Step 1: Service Line Inspection

An EquiFlow Lead-Free Program specialist will visit your home to inspect the material of your service line. Alternatively, you can use the self-verification feature on the EquiFlow website by completing a brief form and uploading a photo of your service line, and one of our EquiFlow Lead-FreeProgram specialists will later contact you to let you know the results of your submission. If your service line contains lead or galvanized material, we will schedule a date and time to replace your service line under the Program.

Step 2: Replacement Day

A licensed plumber will replace your lead service line. During this time, we will need to turn off your water. You will receive an estimate of how long this will take before any work begins. We provide a supply of bottled water for use during this time. We strive to minimize the disruption for you and residents of your home.

Step 3: After Replacement & Restoration of Impacted Areas

We will restore any areas on your property impacted by the replacement activities. We will also provide you with filters to use following replacement and instructions on how to flush yourpipes for the next 30 days. You will want to use the water pitcher or faucet mount filter provided by the EquiFlow Lead-Free Program until your lead levels are below 2.01 ppb.

Step 4: Water Testing

Testing is critical to ensure a reduction in lead levels following replacement activities. An EquiFlow Lead-Free Program specialist may visit your home following replacement to test the water and confirm lead levels have successfully been reduced. You can also order a lead-in-water test kit from U.S. Water (located in Wausau, WI) by visiting their website directly.

Step 5: Congratulations – All Done!

Your EquiFlow Lead-Free Program journey is complete. Congratulations on creating a healthier environment for you and your home!
