Replacement Process

What to Expect: The EquiFlow Lead-Free Program’s Five Step Replacement Process

Participating in the EquiFlow Lead-Free Program is a simple, five-step process designed to ensure that every Wausau home benefits from a safe and lead-free water supply. From inspecting your service line to restoration and final testing, our team of specialists will work closely with you to replace any lead or galvanized service line with a safe, lead-free alternative.  Here’s an overview of what you can expect once you sign up for the replacement process.

Step 1: Service Line Inspection

As part of the EquiFlow Lead-Free Program, all homeowners who have had their lead service lines replaced will receive a water filter pitcher and a supply of NSF-certified replacement filters. The pitcher is specifically designed to remove residual lead particles, providing an extra layer of protection for your drinking water during the six-month period following your service line replacement. This precaution helps ensure that your water remains safe while the new pipe integrates fully into your home’s plumbing system.

Step 2: Replacement Day

The number of filters provided to each household is based on average water consumption data from the CDC. According to CDC statistics, U.S. children and adolescents consume an average of 23 ounces of plain water daily, while adults typically drink around 44 ounces. We use these averages to determine an adequate supply of filters, ensuring each household receives enough to last through the initial six-month period following replacement.

Step 3: After Replacement & Restoration of Impacted Areas

Drinking enough water every day is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being. Adequate hydration helps support normal body functions, including temperature regulation, digestion, and cognitive performance. Dehydration can lead to symptoms like unclear thinking, mood changes, overheating, constipation, and even kidney stones.

Step 4: Water Re-testing

Testing is critical to ensure a reduction in lead levels following replacement activities. An EquiFlow Lead-Free Program specialist may visit your home following replacement to test the water and confirm lead levels have successfully been reduced. You will also receive two free lead-in-water test kits following replacement.
